Interesting Arsenal Matchup: Vela Versus Sagna

Arsenal team-mates Carlos Vela and Bacary Sagna will go head to head tonight when Mexico take on France at the Peter-Mokaba-Stadium in Polokwane.

Both teams have started their tournament with a draw, so that both are definitely under pressure to win this vital clash in Group A. Especially Raymond Domenech’s side was very disappointing against Uruguay as well as Vela’s Mexico side can play better as well.

Gunners Manager Arsene Wenger has admitted today on Arsenal’s official site that the young 21 years old need a good World Cup and that he is so excited for today’s matchup between Carlos and French right back Bacary Sagna.

“He needs a good World Cup,” said the manager. “He had good preparation games but maybe he missed a little bit in the opening match. He has another chance in the second game and he will play against his Arsenal partner Sagna.

“For me it is very interesting to see our players in a different context and when they play against each other it is even more interesting for me.”

Will be a very interesting matchup, with Sagna’s strength and power against Vela’s pace and technique, but first of all Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre have to confirm his starting eleven.

So fans of the Seleccion Mexicana stay tuned for the World Cup encounter tonight! Viva Mexico!

  1. One of the most overhyped players. Will not succeed in the EPL. Too weak. Can do well in Spain though.

  2. Carlitos' sisters friend

Vela had a sitter to square the ball for a goal but blasted over instead, then off with what looked like a tournament ender of an injury…..

The tournament could have been a real springboard for Vela to show that he is ready and able to handle the big time as a potential world class striker but it hasn’t happened.

He just isn’t a prolific goalscorer and could really struggle at Arsenal now. He has Nasri,Arshavin,Van Persie,Chamakh,Bendtner and Walcott ahead of him in a team that plays 3 attackers…..where does Vela fit in now?

Does anyone know what the Arsenal coaching staff make of him ?

  3. historic day in mexico’s football! We won today! I feel bad for vela, it was a great opportunity to proof himself, and show arsene of his quality, but he got injured. Hope it’s nothing big! I really wish he keeps playing!

  4. He blazes one great chance over the bar and then gets injured… Just doesn’t ever seem to go right for Carlos. On a separate note, Hernandez looks class.

  5. Collins Walcott Kasembeli

    Fantastic but kudos Vela

  6. Collins Walcott Kasembeli

    Nice game

  7. It frustrates me that he is so prone to injuries.. Again yesterday against France.

  8. i heard vela is goin to miss the rest of the tournament? is this true?

  9. It’s Nice Post, keep posting and have a nice day… 13:22
