Carlos Vela Gets 24 Minutes In Arsenal’s Victory Over Real Madrid

Arsenal named a very experienced side against Real Madrid today with Gallas, Adebayor, Van Persie, Nasri, and Diaby all starting. Arsenal needed to win 4-0 if they wanted to bring back the Emirates Cup to London, Carlos Vela started from the bench.

Arsenal started well, Denilson having Arsenal’s first chance, as he fired  wide from 25 yards. Minutes later Adebayor and Van Persie linked up well and the latter fed Walcott right of the area but his shot was smothered low down by former Liverpool stopper Jerzy Dudek. Close to half time, Former Gunner Julio Baptista  picked out Raul who was through on goal and rounded goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, at first it looked like Raul had been fouled, but replays showed, he lost his barings and slipped, finally a good decision by the referee, that was to be the final action of the first half, as both teams went into the interval level.

Arsenal had started the second half well showing great passing and movement of the ball, Real Madrid looked to be tiring. The goal would come in the 47th minute Theo Walcott crossed it in and Van Persie was pushed over by Salgado. Adebayor stepped up and hit it into the roof of the net, it was 1-0 to Arsenal.

Wenger sent Vela to warm up down the touchline and showed indications, that he would be entering the field of play very soon, and Vela was introduced with half an hour to go, replacing Robin Van Persie, both got loud cheers. Vela looked bright with his pace and dribbling skills causing the tiring Madrid defensive problems.

In the 68th minute Adebayor went on a mazy run beating 4 players, but then hitting it just wide of the left hand post. English wonderkid Jack Wilshere was brought on and he created the final chance of the game skimming Madrid defender Garcia and crossing in for Bendtner who won a corner, that was the final action in a 1-0 win for Arsenal.

  1. I have faith in Carlos Vela, and pretty soon he will in the starting line up. I saw part of the game, and I saw Adebayou a little too greedy in passing the ball to Carlos. Sometimes you don’t win alone, it takes some team effort if you want to win a game. Playing 24 minutes on the field what’s not enough for a player with so much quality to waste as a benchwarmer, he needs to play 90 minutes to see his great passing skills, drippling skills, and tricks!
