Osasunistas With Victory Over Almeria

On loan Arsenal forward Carlos Vela started on the left wing in Osasuna’s crucial victory over the surprise side of Union Deportiva Almeria in the evening kick off at the Estadio Reyno de Navarra. 15849 visitors at the stadium could celebrate in the end lucky three points for Osasuna as Almeria midfielder Mane crashed the ball on the crossbar in stoppage time. The win gives the home team three crucial points for the the fight to stay in spain’s top league La Liga. With the fourth home win in row stayed the team from coach Jose Angel Ziganda now on 12th position with 4 points clear of the the dangerous relegation zone.

The match started with a early substitution as Bruno Saltor must be replaced by Lopez Rekarte after three minutes. Twenty seconds later first chance for Osasuna as Javi Garcia’s effort from 20 yards flew over the bar after a good corner from Juanfran.

But the hosts should get their lead 2 minutes later as Patxi Punal found Kike Sola with a long ball and he passed the goalkeeper Diego Alves with a 12 yard finish.

But Almeria looked for an equaliser as they created chances for Felipe Melo with a header after 11 minutes and only two minutes later with a 35 yard effort from Lopez Rekarte. But the equaliser should come as Lopez Rekarte sent a free kick from the right wing into the box for midfielder Corona and he headered the ball from 12 yards in the net.

8 minutes later Osasuna had back the lead with a set piece as defender Cesar Cruchaga headered the ball from 6 yards on the far post into the right top corner after a free kick delivery from the right down side from Nacho Monreal.

Osasuna had then another chance after 34 minutes as  Jaroslav Plasil’s effort from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by Almeria’s defense.

In first-half stoppage time Almeria had the chance to equalise again, but Ruben Polido sent a header over the the bar from 6 yards. With a halftime score of 2:1 for Osasuna went both teams back into the changing rooms at Estadio Reyno de Navarra.

After the break Almeria took pressure on Osasuna as midfielder Mane sent a 25 yard left footed effort on goal but the shot was saved by goalkeeper Ricardo. Osasuna goalkeeper Ricardo saved then a Jose Ortiz shot from 12 yards, before Ortiz volleyed the resulting corner over the crossbar.

Ten minutes later Almeria was so close to find an equaliser as Fernando Soriano fired a 25 yard right footer wide. Next chance for Osasuna came then with 19 minutes left on the clock as Jaroslav Plasil sent a corner into the box, but Carlos Vela’s header from 12 yards missed the target. Jaroslav Plasil provided then another set piece seven minutes later, but Josetxo’s header from 12 yards went over the bar.

Carlos Vela was then booked after 89 minutes for a bad challenge. After 90 minutes was the match over for Carlos as he was replaced by Astudillo. Carlos was very active on the left wing but created today not so much. His best chance was the header from 12 yards, who was blocked by Ruben Polido in second half.

The last chance for Almeria came then very deep in stoppage time as midfielder Mane fired a 25 yards effort from outside the box, but the ball crashed on the crossbar and saved Osasuna the three points.

Next up for Osasuna is a trip to Real Valladolid!!!
