Arsenal’s Carlos Vela Plays 38 Minutes Against Mallorca

8 05 2008

Arsenal’s on loan prospect Carlos Vela plays 38 minutes, as the Osasunistas conceded a late defeat against RCD Real Mallorca in the evening kickoff at Ono Estadi.

Jose Angel Ziganda decided to give Vela a break for the vital away match against RCD Real Mallorca, to have him freshly back for the last two clashes in La Liga. Ziganda feels that the young mexican whizkid is a little bit tired after a very long season and named him on the bench.

Osasuna started brightly with a couple of opportunities, but finally it was Real Mallorca who did take the lead after 32 minutes, as Juan Arango delivered topscorer Daniel Guiza and he fired a 12 yard left footed effort from the left side of the box into the net.

After 52 minutes Osasuna made the first change as Carlos Vela replaced Martin Astudillo.

Vela started brightly with a couple of good touches and a lovely pass for Eduardo Dady, but he was caught offside.

On 61 minutes Coach Jose Angel Ziganda made the second substitution as Javier Portillo came on for Cape Verde striker Eduardo Dady. 4 Minutes later Javier Portillo had the next chance, as Carlos Vela delivered him, but his right footed shot from central position was saved by Mallorca’s goalkeeper.

But Osasuna should get their equaliser, as Juanfran fired a great cross from the left hand side into the box to find Javier Portillo and he made no mistake with an assured finish low into the corner.

But the striker handed the initiative back to Real Mallorca. as he got the red card for a stupid foul on Fernando Navarro.

Carlos Vela had then the great opportunity to bring Osasuna on level, as his left footed effort from the centre of the box was saved by Mallorca’s goalkeeper.

Ten Osasunistas tried to hold on the vital away point, but it was Oscar Trejo who knock outed Vela’s side in the third minute of stoppage time, as he strucked home the victory with a 6 yard finish.

Vela looked much better as in the last matches and made some good touches as well as that he had a great opportunity in stoppage time.
